Description
Achieving New Goals: Free Media Strengthen the Post-2015 Development Agenda in Central America. In the framework of the Development Agenda Post-2015, UNESCO San José Office will carry out celebrations of the World Press Freedom Day on 5 May 2014 at the Inter-American Institute of Human Rights.
With the aim to examine the role of free media in the development of Central America, the main topics of the meeting shall be community and social media, training of journalists, the security of journalism and the integrity of journalists for the transparency and good governance of sustainable networks. By means of roundtable discussions and workshops moderated by professionals in the field of media, adepts of press freedom can understand and contribute to discussions, so that their ideas are integrated into the conceptualization of the Post-2015 Agenda.
May 3rd was proclaimed World Press freedom Day in 1993 by the General Assembly of the United Nations. This date provides an opportunity to evaluate press freedom around the world, to defend the media from attacks on their independence and plurality, and as an appropriate occasion to pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the exercise of their profession.
