UNESCO organized a workshop for journalism students on "Media Freedom for Human Development"
In connection with the World Press Freedom Day 2014, the UNESCO Project office in Tunis, in partnership with BBC Media Action and the Institute of Press and Information Sciences (IPSI), organized a workshop on the role of freedom of expression and free media in development. This workshop was held at IPSI premises on 23 May 2014 for IPSI students.
During this workshop, students participated in a hands-on workshop on journalism techniques, focusing on balanced interviews between journalists and politicians, led by the internationally renowned expert Mr. Bob Eggington who originally set up the BBC News website.
The workshop was followed by a debate between the students using the World Café method and led by Naceur Mokni, a professor at IPSI. An introduction was provided by Mr. Youssef Cherif, a national consultant, who presented the national consultation process for the United Nations post-2015 agenda in Tunisia. The discussion gave an opportunity to the students to reflect on the role of press freedom and human development. Participants chose to focus the discussion on the areas of tourism, environment and governance. Students also contributed to the global UN “My World” initiative by compiling the online survey.
This activity received support from Sweden.
